The tape includes a formal interview with Isaak Grigorievich Vainshelboim, born 1918. The team enters Vainshelboim’s courtyard and greets his wife outside their house. They then walk inside and set up the formal interview. After a brief personal introduction, he mentions his service in the Red Army and Jewish life before the war in Ostroh. He describes the town’s central synagogue and the Hebrew inscription at the entrance of the synagogue. The conversation turns to his education at a Jewish school, possibly kheyder or yeshiva; before they discuss Vainshelboim’s family. His parents were born in Ostroh.
The conversation returns to religious life in prewar Ostroh and they further discuss synagogues, as well as address circumcision. They then talk about holiday celebration, in particular about Purim. Before the team asks Vainshelboim a number of dialectological questions from the AHEYM Yiddish questionnaire, he remembers customs during Sabbath celebrations at home. He recalls his mother saying: "You won't get to eat unless you pray." Vainshelboim then talks about his wife. He also tells the team about a mass burial site from Nazi executions in Ostroh, found by construction workers recently. According to him, sixty Jews were buried there. The team then returns to asking dialectological questions. The interview concludes with Vainshelboim further addressing prewar Jewish life Ostroh.
